American honey

The past few days have been consumed with homework and good-byes.  Monday, we said good-bye to our music prof after writing her a loooong final about township jazz (pretty cool) and then said good-bye to the volleyball girls.  Tuesday we said good-bye to South African friends with a lunch at the tea garden down the road.  Wednesday, I finished papers in the morning.  I walked to school in the rain and gave a short lit presentation and said good-bye to Mary West, our prof who we endearingly (but not to her face ;/) called Avril Levign for their similar styles.  Today I completed my week of hellacious school work with a bio final.  Then we said good-bye to the first group to leave Langerry.  That was a wake-up call!  The rest of today is packed with plans.  We are going to get yummy milk shakes from Primis and walk along the beach.  Then I am meeting with Cindy, my Dutch friend from volleyball, her boyfriend Marvin, who is Zimbabwean but studies in South Africa, and Lauren, the captain of the volleyball team.  We are going to dinner at the “back-of-the-convenience-store-Ethiopian-restaurant.”  After dinner, we’re off to Beliza night club with the rest of my roommates and Langerry-ians for our last night out (in addition to the nursing students from CSB who arrived at Langerry last week).  Tomorrow morning, I look forward to a light breakfast, yoga to loosen up, and a shuttle at 11 to take me off to the airport.  I am so sad to go, but grateful for what I’ve learned and experienced here.  As they say, all good things must come to an end.

I have enjoyed my time here.  Thank you to all those who encouraged me to do whatever I set my heart on.  Thanks to St. Bens for providing a program with such an awesome service component, and thanks to House for sharing their little bundles of joy with us.  Thanks to the volleyball girls for their friendship and the opportunity to play some real volleyball!!  It was a blast.  Thank to Joyce-ey for cleaning our room everyday (she’s in here now).  Thanks to friends and family who supported me throughout my time here—you were the best.

As the song goes, "There's a wild, wild whisper blowing in the wind, callin' out my name like a long lost friend."  Africa has been amazing, and the travel wind has caught my ear.  Where will I go next?

Peace.
