My middle school dreams come true

Some of the guys from the community volleyball team treated us to a night out in a former Coloured location called Korsten.  We went to the Godfather Supreme night club with Fabian and his guys in their tricked out VW Polos with insane sound systems.  We were tired from a long week, but I climbed into the back seat and they asked how loud we like the music.  We hemmed and hawed long enough for them to turn up the bass so loud that it racked my body in a cough and messed up my hair.  Apparently Fabian and the guys had just come from a sound contest in which they placed second.  They did some drag racing and contest before they came to get us.  Not my normal company but and interesting and fun lot nonetheless.

We rode to Korsten and came upon tons of cars parked outside old buildings with a braai pit and wurst (high quality hot dogs) for sale.  It looked like a scene straight from Save the Last Dance.  Every car was pimped out and completely over-stuffed with people.  We even saw one car with guys sitting on one another, creating two or three layers in the back seat which is not a common sight.  The girls were lookin’ hot.  We missed that memo and were a bit dressed down, oops.  Adults of all ages filled the club to dance and drink.

As his guests, Fabian treated the other CSB volleyball girls and me, to the cover charge and plenty of drinks, despite our protests.  (Culture note: He later told us that the protest was very offensive and that we should have expected to be treated as we are ladies and international guests.  Offering to pay for our own drinks and cover charge would question his ability to do so.)  We danced the whole time and got back around 2:30am.  After showering and settling down a little I was in bed by 3:30 and up with my alarm at 5:30 to get on a bus towards Capetown with the rest of the CSBSJU group.

  1. Sounds like an interesting evening. You just never know what kind of thing will offend when you are in a different culture! The cars thing would be right up the alley of a couple boys I know!! Nick is loving his job at the race track so far.
